Caring about the impact of your work on others is showing your humanity, not caring is what’s really pompous. Thank you for showing us you care. It’s why I keep coming back to you and your books. We can’t tear down the patriarchy until we start caring about what happens to the other humans around us and doing our best to help them.

I read this twice and it's sooo helpful. I'm so glad you shared Carol's wisdom, and reminded me to bring my empathy with me when I think/hear about all the Joannes being Joannes.

Your books taught me to “remember who the true enemy is” - patriarchy. Yet instead of cis women and trans women working to find common ground, I see us cannibalizing each other. It doesn’t bring me confidence or joy to read about how one woman should “keep her massively amplified mouth quiet” when there are politicians every day voting to literally take away trans rights, as well as violent abusers of trans (and cis) women who don’t get any attention. I think the focus on JK Rowling distracts from the real issues.

This was helpful. I am not going to go down any of those video rabbit holes but I know enough of what’s been going on to also be scratching my head about British feminism. Oh who are we kidding, White feminism in general. (I can’t speak to POC feminism.) Carol’s insight and your exposition on it make a lot of sense though. I recently started watching Pose, and in the second episode the Trump employee guy tells Angel something like he feels she is the freest person he knows. Which is ironic considering she’s literally turning tricks to stay alive, but it made a point. Some people just can’t stand to see someone inhabiting themselves that way.
